(Stage 1) Day 0 Thursday May 26 – Arrival at Little Andrews Bay

The original plan was to launch from Wistaria Provincial Park which is 25 kilometres east of Little Andrews Bay (LAB). We did drive into Wistaria first to check out this location. The main consideration at this point was to see if we would be comfortable with leaving the truck unattended in this spot for over two weeks. Although the forestry services folks in Burns Lake thought it would be quite safe, they did say that Little Andrews Bay might be better.

When we got to Wistaria, the first thing we noticed was that there was a lot of garbage laying around. We figured that there must have been people in the area partying for the May long weekend which had just passed. It never ceases to amaze me how messy humans can be. The lack of respect that humans can have for their environment... Never mind. I've had this rant before but you know what I mean. We did not feel comfortable leaving the truck in this park. Therefore, we decided to jump back into the truck and drive 25 kms further over to LAB.

Upon arriving at LAB we got a completely different impression. This forestry sight was totally clean and was in a beautiful area. The choice to leave the vehicle there was clear.

By the time we got to LAB, it was late afternoon so we decided to set up camp there for the night and get a fresh start in the morning. This site provided designated camp sites with picnic tables and outhouses. Very nice overall.

Campsite at Little Andrews Bay - May 26, 2016

On this particular camp we didn't need to worry about caching the food because we could keep the food inside the truck over night. However, one of the first things we noticed was some fairly fresh bear scat right at the entrance of our camp site. So we knew they were around.

The weather was a little grey and rainy so we put up a tarp over the picnic table to give some shelter. This worked out very well. We ended up going to bed at around 9 pm.
