2 Night Kayak & Camping at Aloutte Lake

Overview

I've been to Aloutte lake (Golden Ears Provincial Park) many times over the years but I never get tired of this place. On this trip I went with my neighbours who are probably among the most adventurous people I've ever met. We decided to make this trip a two night camping, paddling trip. The objective was to begin doing some conditioning for a much bigger trip at the beginning June (i.e. 270 kilometre, 14 day paddle north of Tweedsmuir provincial park). Apart from that, it was just another excuse to get out into the great outdoors and what a great time it was with the weather being excellent all three days out.

On the first day we paddled about half way up the lake to our camping spot which was about 9 kms from where we launched. We got to our spot about mid afternoon and relaxed for the rest of the day on the hot, sunny beach. It was almost too hot but we couldn't really complain. We did find some shady spots to sit in. The second day was a paddle up to the very end of the lake and back to our camping spot which was about 20 kms in total. At the end of this lake is an amazing, sandy beach area just at the base of Mt. Robie Reid which is a spectacular mountain that is snow covered all year round.

In addition to the amazing scenery and very calm waters, we were very lucky to be graced by the presence of two magnificent ospreys (seen in the slides) who stayed very calmly at their nest while we paddled and took pictures. What a treat. One of the reasons I love paddling over power boating is that I can approach wild life like this without being too disruptive. This is a good example of how one can more easily blend in to nature.

The evenings we're so relaxing sitting by a nice camp fire, having some great conversations. The icing on the cake was that we also had moonlight nights on both nights with an amazing view of the stars in the sky. The universe was aligned.
