Kayaking on Cultus Lake

Peaceful Monday morning in January

1st time out with the new kayak this morning. It was excellent. Very good tracking. Steering with the foot rudder sure makes paddling a lot easier. Seems very stable. Very pleased with the kayak's performance. Wilderness Systems - Tsunami 145.

As you can see it was a picture perfect day. The water was like a sheet of ice and the kayak just glided through the water. This video really gives a sense of how peaceful it was. I look forward to going out on even more remote lakes.

At one point in this little video clip you can actually see the reflection of the snow capped peak of Mount Cheam which is just a little further east of Chilliwack. I'm hoping to climb that peak this spring or summer. The view from that peak is supposed to be out of this world. There's a couple of pretty good shots of mount Cheam (below) as well.

Here are just a few shots from that day around the lake.

Location Description

The maps below show the general location (in relation to highway 1) of Cultus lake and where to launch any boat. I used the boat lauch area to put the kayak in the water. From there I paddled around towards the provincial camp groung and from there went across to the day area also accessible by car on Parmenter Rd. I got out of the kayak at that spot and then just did a little exploring there. Found a water fall which was pretty nice.

From there I got back into the kayak and paddled a little further south and then back across to boat launch. Overall it was about 1½ hrs. Short but very refreshing and gave me a good run on the new kayak.
